At Aegir, we love beer and all that it stands for. We are also conscious of man’s place in the natural world and the responsibility that comes with it. So we make our systems as efficient and waste-free as possible. For example:
To minimize energy consumption:
- Very well insulated brewhouse vessels
- High efficiency heating – direct steam injection in mash tun and the hot liquor tank, and a calandria for the wort kettle
- High-gravity wort production – reduces the amount of boiling in the kettle to reach the desired Plato
- A very efficient wort spreader – reduces boiling time necessary for removal of unwanted volatiles
- Wort cooling heat exchanger- heat extracted from the hot wort is used to warm the water in the hot liquor tank
- And much, much more
To minimize raw material consumption:
- Fine milling, the Meura mash filter and a tightly controlled brew cycle result in extract rates typically above 95% of laboratory maximum and thereby reduced grain consumption
- Efficient kettle operation results in reduced hop consumption
- The Meura mash filter and Insight(TM), Aegir’s brewhouse management system, results in considerably lower water consumption in the brewery
To minimize the waste stream
- Efficient starch extraction leads to a reduction in spent grains
- A bag-house on the milling center virtually eliminates particulate escape into the environment
- Mash filter and automation minimizes water use and effluent sent down the drain
